In 1932,
the Western North Carolina Conference of the Methodist Church recommended the
merger of Davenport College (another school under the auspices of the Methodist
Church) in Lenoir, N.C., with Greensboro College. The decision was chiefly a financial
one, and the process of working out and negotiating the details took several years.
