Annual Catalogues

Summary:

Annual Catalogues of the College typically include most, but not necessarily all, of the following: lists of trustees (earlier catalogues only), faculty, students (including the name of their hometown), and alumni, information about the requirements for admission and promotion, courses of instruction, calendars, tuition and costs, location, building(s), equipment, campus societies, religious services and the sabbath, health, discipline, visits, dress, etc.

Interpretive:
Because of the wide variety of information that the early annual catalogues contain, they are especially useful in helping to develop a better sense of what life was like at the College in those early years. By examining the catalogs chronologically, one can chart not only the social development of the College, but also its academic development. By comparing the College's early annual catalogues with those from other college's during the same time period(s), one can better assess the College's role in and contributions to the development of women's education.

Status: Non-Circulating

Notes: For information regarding reproductions and/or use, please see Terms of Use.

1863-73: Main Bldg. burned in August of 1863, and the College did not reopen until 1873 due, in part, to the financial hardships generated by the Civil War and Reconstruction.
Note: The College possesses all of the Annual Catalogues from 1873-74 to the present. For the purposes of this project however, only three catalogues between 1873-1900 were digitized. If you need access to other catalogues, please contact the museum director.
